Critical acclaim for THE LEGEND OF TEN

"Masterfully crafted, ingeniously musical, naturally lyrical, and bubbling with pleasing body shapes and effervescent motion." That's how Backstage began its glowing review of the company's November 2010 season of Baryshnikov Arts Center. The five-performance run attracted capacity crowds of Lubovitch fans, and elicited positive notices from even notoriously finicky critics.

In a review titled "Waves of Movement, Ever Flowing," The New York Times noted the "qualities of individual fantasy" in Lubovitch's choreography: "As the fourth movement of a Brahms piano quintet begins, a man slides a woman along the floor. They're both seated and he -- propelling them with his knees, her wrapped across his back -- is treading backward. This image of effort and dejection, a strange, dreamlike response to the music, at once lodges in the head."

On-line, danceviewtimes called the season "another celebration of [Lubovitch's] meticulous, fluid movement," concluding that "few choreographers caress music so tenderly with their dance."

Rounding out the reviews, Dance Magazine called the presentation "enchanting," summing up the choreography as "something soothing and reviving, like water passing softly over body and soul."

With the start of the New Year, the Lubovitch company will be going back out on the road, continuing our 20-city national tour. During January and February the company will be performing in Kansas, as well as throughout Pennsylvania and New York state.

After that, the company will begin work on our next new dance. The piece will be developed during a 3-week residency at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. The residency is being partially underwritten with a generous grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, and it will include a performance on June 9th at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center as well as an opportunity for students from around the world to study with the company (learning technique and repertory). For info on studying with the company at Skidmore, click here.

Work on the creation of the new dance will continue through June & July, culminating in the premiere of the new dance (at a venue to be announced later). Visit our website for the company's current schedule -- and check back in early 2011 for the announcement of the location of the next premiere, as well more news about additional appearances in the summer and fall of 2011.

From our friends at Mark Morris Dance Group:
See The Hard Nut at BAM this week!

The Lubovitch company is always happy to recommend the work of our alumni. In the late 70's and early 80's, before striking out on his own, Mark Morris was a dancer in the Lubovitch company. If you have not already seen it, we definitely encourage you to check out his dance, The Hard Nut.
