When the Lubovitch company takes the stage at Baryshnikov Arts Center next week, we will not only be celebrating the World Premiere of Legend for Ten - but also marking the half-way point in a year-long international tour. Lar Lubovitch and our dancers hit the road back in June 2010 with an all-jazz program at the prestigious 53-year-old Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy. Since then, the company has performed at more than a dozen venues, including two separate stops in Chicago, a very welcome return to Washington DC (after more than a decade) and engagments in seven additional states.
The Chicago Tribune called Coltrane's Favorite Things "a new personal best from Lubovitch, a breezy yet exhaustive meeting of dance and jazz," while The Washington Post trumpeted the company's "triumphant return to the region," calling the performance "a heady experience" and noting that all of the company's "dancers are true artists in their own right, and the 'music' they make is as wondrous as that of any Coltrane quartet."
After our upcoming season at the Baryshnikov Arts Center -- featuring the world premiere of Legend for Ten --the company members will take a short holiday break, then return to winter tour dates throughout the Northeast, with plans underway for 2011 international appearances in Italy and Israel.
