LAR LUBOVITCH'S "OTHELLO" NOMINATED FOR A PRIMETIME EMMY AWARD!

The nationwide television broadcast of "Dance In America: Lar Lubovitch's 'Othello'" on PBS's Great Performances has just been nominated for a 2004 Primetime Emmy Award for "Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or Special." Elliot Goldenthal was chosen by Lubovitch to create the commissioned score for the ballet. The awards were presented on September 19th.

"Othello" is a full-length ballet created by the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in 1997 (together with American Ballet Theatre and the San Francisco Ballet). The dance was broadcast nationwide on television on June 18, 2003. More than 900,000 viewers saw the initial broadcast. Previous nationwide broadcasts of the company's works (including "Concerto Six Twenty-Two," "Fandango" and "The Planets") were honored with International Emmy and Grammy Awards.

LAR LUBOVITCH TO BE HONORED WITH THE 2004 ELAN AWARD

Lar Lubovitch will be honored as the recipient of the 5th annual Elan Award at a special gala evening on October 11th at 7pm at the Haft Auditorium at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Presented by Dance Spirit Magazine and Capezio, the Award honors one choreographer who has changed the way we view dance. Previous Elan Award recipients are Graciella Danielle (2000), Jerry Mitchell (2001), Ann Reinking (2002) and Rob Marshall (2003). The gala celebration is a multi-media show that will include a performance of Lubovitch's "My Funny Valentine" as well as short works by Buglisi/Foreman Dance and other emerging choreographers.

LUBOVITCH'S "MY FUNNY VALENTINE," (FEATURED IN ROBERT ALTMAN'S FILM "THE COMPANY") NOMINATED FOR AMERICAN CHOREOGRAPHY AWARD

The nominations for the 10th annual American Choreography Awards have just been announced in Los Angeles. Lubovitch's duet "My Funny Valentine" - featured in Robert Altman's film "The Company" - was nominated for "Outstanding Achievement in Choreography in a Feature Film."

"My Funny Valentine" (2001) is the final duet of Lubovitch's "...smile with my heart," which was created in celebration of the centennial of Richard Rodgers' birth. The dance is set to a specially commissioned score, Marvin Laird's "Fantasie on Themes by Richard Rodgers."

This mission of the American Choreography Awards is to raise the visibility for the art of choreography created for camera. The awards are presented in association with the Academy of Dance on Film. The Awards will be presented at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles on October 17th.
