As the official launch of the Lubovitch company's 40th anniversary celebration, Prelude to a Dance brings together many of Lar Lubovitch's closest friends and artistic collaborators from the worlds of Broadway, ballet and modern dance.

Lar first worked with Bernadette Peters when he made his Broadway debut choreographing the 1987 Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical Into the Woods.   Marvin Laird, who will accompany Ms. Peters, also created the score for "...smile with my heart," Lar's 2002 tribute to the work of Richard Rodgers.  Julie Kent and Marcelo Gomes have performed principal roles in many of Lar's collaborations at American Ballet Theatre (including Meadow and the 2007 restaging of his 1997 full-length Othello), and Mr. Gomes has also performed as a guest artist with the Lubovitch company.  Pedja Muzijevic, a concert pianist who has also worked closely with Mikhail Baryshnikov, joined the company for our premiere of Little Rhapsodies last year, and is now expanding his collaboration by working with us on the world premiere of a new work this spring, as well as other projects for our anniversary season this fall.

Tickets for Prelude to a Dance can be reserved for $500 and $1,000.  (All but $150 of each ticket is tax-deductible.)  Admission includes: a pre-performance cocktail reception (6pm), performance (7pm), reserved table seating and supper (8:15pm).  There are also a limited number of performance-only mezzanine seats available for $150 per ticket. For more information, please telephone 212.221.7909 or email Feinstein@lubovitch.org.

Lar Lubovitch Dance Company

Mission:  The Lubovitch company was created to realize the artistic vision of Lar Lubovitch, one of the foremost contemporary choreographers in the United States.  The company exists: (1) to create new work; (2) to perform those works (and facilitate the performance of those works by others) both in our home base of New York City and around the world; and (3) to teach people of all ages, ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds, in order to increase awareness and appreciation of dance.

History:  Over the past 40 years, the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company has gained a reputation as one of the world's leading modern dance companies and has performed in virtually every state of the US and in more than 30 foreign countries.  Lar Lubovitch has been cited by The New York Times as "one of the ten best choreographers in the world," and the company has been called a "national treasure" by Variety.  The company is primarily focused on the creation of new dances, sometimes in collaboration with other top companies.
